Check a Saudi VAT number
Saudi VAT number checker format rules
A Saudi VAT registration number has 15 digits. The first digit must be 3 and the last digit must also be 3.
| Rule | Required format |
|---|---|
| Length | 15 digits |
| First digit | 3 |
| Last digit | 3 |
| Characters | Digits |
| VAT group indicator | The 11th digit is 1 for a VAT group number |
The same 15-digit rule, with 3 at the beginning and end, applies to a buyer's VAT number on a non-export invoice under ZATCA's XML Implementation Standard v1.2, rule BR-KSA-44.
The checker reports each format result separately. For example, a number can have the correct length but fail because its first or last digit is wrong.
A format result tells you whether the number follows these structural rules. It cannot establish that the number belongs to a registered taxpayer or identify its owner.
If you are entering a VAT number for an invoice, use the number supplied by the relevant seller or buyer. Do not replace missing digits or change a number merely to make it pass the check.
VAT group numbers need an additional detail
The 11th digit has a specific meaning for VAT groups. If it is 1, the number indicates a VAT group. The checker shows the VAT group note only for a number that passes every format check.
This matters when a taxpayer onboards an e-invoicing device with ZATCA. Under section 3.3.3 of ZATCA's Detailed Technical Guidelines, a certificate request for a VAT group must put the 10-digit Tax Identification Number (TIN) of the group member being onboarded in the organisation unit field.
The group VAT number and the member's TIN therefore have different roles in the certificate request.
If the checker identifies a VAT group number, review the relevant member details before onboarding. The checker detects the 11th-digit indicator; it does not retrieve or confirm the member's TIN.
For a store using WooCommerce, the onboarding information should reflect the taxpayer and the unit being registered with ZATCA.
Check registration through ZATCA's official service
A VAT number can pass every format rule without the checker knowing whether it is registered.
ZATCA provides an official service called VAT Registration Verification. You can use it to search by VAT account number, certificate number or commercial registration (CR) number.
Use that service when you need to check registration status. The format checker on this page examines the number's structure only.
For a buyer's VAT number, this distinction matters before issuing a standard tax invoice. A correctly formatted number is necessary for the invoice's VAT field, but the format alone is not evidence of registration.
Where Raseedo uses VAT numbers
Raseedo uses your store's VAT number during seller setup. In the free plugin, enter it under WooCommerce then
The plugin validates the seller VAT number when you save it. The number must contain 15 digits and start and end with 3. The plugin refuses to start ZATCA onboarding until the seller details are filled in.
The free plugin issues simplified tax invoices for eligible WooCommerce orders in Saudi riyals.
Raseedo Pro adds buyer VAT fields to the classic and block checkout. The buyer VAT field is optional. When a buyer enters a number, the plugin removes spaces and dashes and checks that it has 15 digits and starts and ends with 3. A wrong format stops checkout with an explanation.
When a buyer VAT number is provided, legal name, building number and district become required checkout fields. For a standard invoice, Raseedo also needs the buyer's street and city, plus the building number, district and postal code for Saudi buyers.
With a valid VAT number and the required buyer details, Pro creates a standard tax invoice and sends it to ZATCA for clearance before the buyer receives it. If the order reaches invoicing with missing required buyer details, Pro issues a simplified invoice and adds an order note identifying what is missing.

Frequently asked questions
Does a valid format mean the VAT number is registered?
No. This checker confirms the number's format only. Use ZATCA's VAT Registration Verification service to check whether the number is registered.
What does it mean when the 11th digit is 1?
It indicates a VAT group number. When onboarding a member of that group, ZATCA requires the member's 10-digit TIN in the organisation unit field of the certificate request.
Does every WooCommerce customer need to enter a VAT number?
No. Raseedo's free plugin issues simplified tax invoices. With Pro, a buyer can optionally enter a VAT number at checkout for a standard tax invoice. When a VAT number is provided, the required buyer details must also be available for standard invoice issuance.
